Professional Development Framework for Educators
Educators involved in the education and supervision of healthcare learners within their organisation should have the necessary knowledge, skills and approaches to help develop and support learners in practice, across the healthcare professions. This Framework is a guide to best practice and to help practitioners to demonstrate their skills in their role as educators and supervisors. It is applicable in all clinical settings and Higher Education Institutions.
The Framework is designed around seven key areas of activity, all of which relate to the role of an educator and supervisor across healthcare learning environments. The Framework document can be accessed in Documents below. A list of online modules mapped to the Framework Areas can be found on our Educator Hub.
We welcome comments from all practitioners on the Framework document. Should you wish to submit your feedback please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
GMC requirements for supervisors
The ‘Operational Guidelines for the GMC Recognition and Approval of Trainers’, which can be accessed below, outlines the GMC requirements for named educational and named clinical supervisors in London and South East, which came into effect in July 2016. The Professional Development Framework for Educators defines the standards expected of supervisors in London and South East and the requirements on Trusts to deliver these standards. The ‘Operational Guidelines’ should be read in conjunction with the main Framework document.
For further information on the Approval and Accreditation of Trainers see; Recognising and Approving Trainers: The Implementation Plan (GMC 2012).
