London GP Programmes

HEE London has a range of schemes in a variety of geographical locations with a range of cultural, social, educational and working opportunities.

We have a range of GP training schemes. Posts include those at University Teaching hospitals, or district general hospitals, and all areas with exciting and innovative GP trainer networks. London has a thriving community education provider network, and it is envisaged that GP training schemes will link in with the range of professions in health and care who work together across the sectors to improve the health of our populations.

We have a thriving GP trainee committee, close engagement around junior doctors working lives with our lead employer and guardians of safe working. We have a range of innovative projects including primary and secondary care initiatives, some have simulation in GP care training for 2018, opportunities for near peer teaching of medical students, embedded quality improvement, and a desire to celebrate innovation from our GP learners.

The Heads of Primary Care for London have created groups of GP schemes to be chosen which fall within a defined geographic region for the first stage in choosing preferences. Once offers to these groups have been finalised and all upgrades completed, you will be provided with the details of each programme available within the group and given the opportunity to preference these locally. Allocations will then be made based on your overall rank and preference. By linking some schemes, the aim is to provide a very positive training experience in all schemes throughout London. Some schemes share best practice and work collaboratively, for example joint learning events in the half day release. The Heads of Primary Care for London are committed to a very positive learning and working experience within all programmes in London. GP trainers developed the groups to reflect the changing needs and aspirations of specialty trainees.  This also takes into account patient safety and service requirements within the London sectors.  Programmes have been designed to provide varied training with placements in contrasting settings so that our future workforce, will be skilled and experienced to meet our population health requirements.

To select our schemes, we have a single unit of application for London. We then have schemes grouped together from which to select your preferred group. Each group is hosted in a single area such as “South London “, North West London“ or “North Central and East London “  and contains a range of programmes within the locality. A breakdown of the schemes within each group can be found in the document (London GP Groups) on the right of this page. Each area has its own flavour and more detail on each training programme along with the programme directors can be found here. Following recruitment those who are successful will be offered a programme from within their preferenced group, and final matching within the group will be done according to choice and taking recruitment scores into account.

We hope you are successful in your application and look forward to welcoming you.
