CT2: Core Skills Programme

1. Hand-sewn bowel anastomosis
2. Basic vascular anastomosis
3. Laparoscopic appendicectomy
4. Divisions of the Abdominal Wall
5. Ankle fracture fixation
6. Tracheostomy and neck abscesses

CT1: Core Surgical Anatomy Programme and Skills

1. Thorax 1 – Breast, anterior thoracic wall muscles, heart, pericardium, great vessels.
2. Thorax 2 – Lungs, pleura, trachea, bronchi, diaphragm, 2ndry muscles of respiration
3. Thorax 3 – Mediastinum, concentrating on superior and posterior
4. Abdo. 1 – Abdominal wall, inguinal ligament, inguinal canal
5. Abdo. 2 – GI tract – oesophagus to anus
6. Abdo.3 – Hepatobiliary, pancreas, spleen, renal, adrenal; Clinical Skills (suturing & knot tying)
7. Pelvis and perineum – male – bones of pelvis, joints and ligaments, pelvic contents, perineum
8. Pelvis and perineum – female – pelvic sexual dimorphism, pelvic contents, perineum
9. Limbs overview – plexuses, nerves, blood supply, lymph drainage
10. Lower limb 1 – Buttock, hip joint, thigh
11. Lower limb 2 – Knee, leg, ankle, foot; Clinical skills (lap skills/lap appendix)
12. Upper limb 1 – upper limb girdle, glenohumeral joint, arm
13. Upper Limb 2- elbow joint, forearm wrist, hand; Clinical skills (catheter insertion)
14. Back – Vertebrae, discs, ligaments, meninges, spinal cord, nerve roots, extensor muscles
15. Neck – Fascias, compartments and contents, levels
16. Head 1 – Bones of skull, skull base, dura, venous sinuses
17. Head 2 – Face, oral cavity, muscles of mastication, CN V and VII
18. Neuroanatomy – Divisions of brain, functional area, CSF ventricles, pia, arachnoid, blood supply
19. MRCS revision

What is it?

• A new platform which will deliver the Core Surgical Curriculum via monthly webinars by educators across the UK
• Hub to co-ordinate and combine all things core related and combine all things core related (upcoming deadlines, useful links, forum discussions, collaboration)

Breast Trainees (ST5-ST6; ST7/8 trainees to attend cadaveric sessions only)

1. Wide local excision and wire-guided surgery
2. Breast imaging and needle localisation/biopsy
3. Axillary node clearance  
4. Nipple reconstruction
5. Lipomodelling 
6. Mammoplasty
7. Intercostal artery perforator flaps (cadaveric session)
8. Sentinel lymph node biopsy
9. Assessment

Colorectal Trainees (ST5-ST6; ST7/8 trainees to attend cadaveric sessions only)

1. Laparoscopic suturing
2. Hand-sewn coloanal anastomosis 
3. Proctological workshop (optional)
4. Laparoscopic TAPP inguinal hernia repair
5. Rectal prolapse surgery (Delorme's procedure)
6. Laparoscopic right hemicolectomy 
7. Lower GI trauma/emergencies
8. Hand-sewn and stapled ileoanal pouch formation
9. Haemorrhoid surgery and treatments
10. Assessment

Transplant Trainees (ST5-ST6; ST7/8 trainees to attend cadaveric sessions only)

1. Back Table Kidney Preparation (Benching)
2. Ureteric Techniques - standard, duplex, etc
3. Kidney Transplant (Advanced Vascular)- anastomotic techniques on arteries and veins, vein elongation techniques, living/deceased donor vessels, single/multiple vessels, etc
4. Full abdominal retrieval and benching - using human cadavers
5. Dialysis Access Surgery
6. Assessment

UGI/HPB Trainees (ST5-ST6; ST7/8 trainees to attend cadaveric sessions only)

1. Laparoscopic perforated peptic ulcer repair and laparoscopic suturing
2. Biliary bypass surgery
3. Laparoscopic TAPP inguinal hernia repair 
4. Hand-sewn oesophagogastric anastomosis
5. Laparoscopic fundoplication and Heller's myotomy 
6. Laparoscopic common bile duct exploration
7. Upper GI trauma/emergencies
8. Pancreatic anastomoses
9. Assessment
