Presenting information to clinicians requires more than making sure clinical content is accurate. The way that information is presented affects the way it is used. Well-presented information engages users and makes clinical points more accessible. Poorly presented information is likely to be ignored or forgotten. This one-day seminar covers the psychological and ergonomic science of effective design, with specific reference to checklists and algorithms. This will be a very practical and interactive session. We particularly encourage delegates to bring any designs they are working on in their own workplaces. Our final session offers a ‘Design Clinic’, where real design issues faced in your own areas can be explored. Participants are invited to submit example guidelines, checklists, or algorithms at least one week in advance of the seminar. On the day, a group discussion will be facilitated on a selection of these submissions. This group activity will encourage reflection on design-focused challenges and decisions, using peer-support and drawing on the expertise of the faculty.
