MODULE AIMS
The aim of this module is to:
Provide a useful and user-friendly overview of single clinical incidences (SCI) and offer advice on how they can be managed. The learning outcomes have been designed for you to:
- develop a comprehensive understanding of what single clinical incidences in medicine are
- increase your awareness of why and how critical incidences might occur
- consider ways in which you can reduce the likelihood of single clinical incidences
- equip you with immediate knowledge to manage a clinical incident if you are involved in one
- develop your knowledge of the support and resources available to doctors involved in critical incidences
- deepen your understanding of the information from the GMC in how single clinical incidences and complaints are managed
This module has been designed for the individual trainee doctor who is interested in learning more about SCIs or is involved in one. It is both interactive and directive; it will ask you to reflect on your own experiences and will suggest actions and resources to consolidate your understanding of the topic.
Action Point 1 You will have read the GMC Good Medical Practice several times during your medical school education and training; however it is worth a read now to remind you of the standards that you are judged against. Having a very clear grasp of the duties of a doctor is important and will form the basic structure for your portfolio and Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) and your appraisal and revalidation in the future. https://www.gmc-uk.org/ethical-guidance/ethical-guidance-for-doctors/good-medical-practice |
