Supporting the Neurodivergent Learner

This workshop is for multi-professional educators in London wishing to develop their skills and understanding of supporting neurodivergent learners. It will be suitable for Educational Supervisors, Clinical Supervisors, Training Programme Directors, Associate Deans and Heads of School

Areas covered:

1) Developing an understanding of neurodivergence with a particular focus on common experiences, patterns and themes which may be suggestive of dyslexia, ADHD and autism.

2) Considering the experience of neurodivergent trainees.

3) Approaching conversations with a trainee experiencing difficulties where neurodivergence may be unidentified and worth considering as a relevant context.

4) Supporting trainees with identified neurodivergence.

This half-day workshop is open to educational supervisors in London.  
We will
- Reflect on our work as supervisors and what makes us flourish
- Challenge formulaic conceptions of capabilities/ competences that may not reflect   changing cultural and societal norms
- Consider how formative assessment might be collaborative, exploring the learner’s thought processes, decision making, values and assumptions
- Introduce the idea of Creative Enquiry
- Explore conceptions and formation of professional identity

This workshop is available to all primary and secondary care educators in London.

By attending this half day, you will:

Understand the ways in which socio-cultural aspects of language can affect learners and may disadvantage particular groups (e.g. those with English as a second language, those who are from socially disadvantaged backgrounds and those with neurodivergence)

Understand the effects of stereotype bias and how to mitigate against it

Have a chance to consider identity formation and the importance of inclusion; as well as ways in which to improve this in your workplace

Workshop for trainers; A workshop to help you support your trainees following incidents of workplace violence and aggression.

Workplace violence and aggression is common in the healthcare setting and it and has a significant impact on the individual resulting in anxiety, depression, PTSD and leaving staff questioning their competence, confidence, organisation and willingness to continue in the job. The majority of trainees will report workplace violence and aggression to their supervisor, the supervisor's response and follow-up can have a significant mitigation on the impact of workplace violence and aggression for the trainee. 

This workshop highlights the types, occurrence, risk factors and impact of workplace violence and aggression through survey data and case studies. With breakout rooms and discussion on trauma informed work, practical application and pathways for trainee support which could be implemented locally. It also provides space for trainer reflection on the issue of workplace violence and aggression as well as the impact this has on the whole workforce.
